Spa City Blues Christmas Party

---David Hughes
The Spa City Blues Society will hold its Christmas Party on Saturday, December 11, in the Ballroom of the Arlington Hotel. Performing for the party will be blues recording artist and multiple Blues Music Award nominee, Nick Moss & The Fliptops. Also performing will be the SCBS’s representatives to the International Blues Challenge. The representatives for the IBC had not been chosen at press time. Doors will open at 7:00 pm with the music starting at 8:00.
Nick Moss is a tried and true student of the Chicago blues scene, having immersed himself in it for many years. His latest CD, Privileged, has received critical praise from the media and musicians. Having played with the likes of Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Dawkins and Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith, Moss has earned his reputation as a bluesman. Originally a bass player, Moss was encouraged by Smith to take up the guitar. Since then, individuals such as Buddy Guy have referred to Moss as the next torch bearer for the blues.
Admission for the party is $20 for non-SCBS members and $10 for SCBS members. All proceeds will be used to help pay expenses for the SCBS’s representatives to attend the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, February 1 – 5, 2011. The IBC is the world’s largest gathering of blues musicians, all coming together for the week to vie for the titles of best blues band and best solo/duo performers. The SCBS has participated in this event for several years, sending competitors in the band and solo/duo categories as well as sending representatives to participate in the Youth Showcase. For information on the International Blues Challenge go to www.blues.org.
The SCBS will be collecting toys for the Toys for Tots organization during the evening. Individuals should bring an unwrapped toy when they come to the event. Toys will be collected during the course of the evening. The Arlington Hotel will be offering party packages that include admission to the show and a hotel room. For more information go to www.arlingtonhotel.com. Tickets for the show may be also purchased on the SCBS website also at www.spacityblues.org.
