Arkansas celebrates Earth Day
Arkansas Earth Day Foundation, in
partnership with the William J. Clinton Foundation, is producing the
Arkansas Earth Day Festival and Concert.
Arkansas Earth Day’s Festival is the largest statewide earth day
festival! This is a free, rain/shine event with a range of fun and
interactive experiences for all ages. From healthy food options and
live entertainment, to eco-friendly shopping opportunities and hands-on
games, attendees will enjoy the outdoor celebration while being
motivated to take green actions. The festival is Saturday, April 26th
from 11am to 4pm at the Clinton Library Park.
The evening’s concert will help attendees learn to go green, support
local artists, and look fashionable as attendees view two stages of
live music, artists sculpting from recycled materials, a green fashion
show, and simple green initiatives. Entry is $5 and limited to those 18
and up as locally produced beer and wine will be available. This event
is also Saturday, April 26th from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the ArtScene in
North Little Rock.
Arkansas Earth Day Foundation (AED) is the only Lead Agency in Arkansas
for Global Youth Service Day. Their service event is Arkansas Earth Day
Festival and Concert on Saturday, April 26, 2008. AED will need to get
600 volunteers including youth signed up to participate. They are still
short of this number and looking for new volunteers and groups!
Interest applications can be submitted at www.ArkansasEarthDay.org.
CMT One Country, the pro-social initiative for cable network CMT, and
Youth Service America have joined forces for the second year in a row
to help motivate youth in America for Global Youth Service Day on April
25- 27, the largest volunteering event in the world. Recording artist
Diana DeGarmo of CMT’s GONE COUNTRY, will be the honorary spokesperson
for Global Youth Service Day, speaking publicly on behalf of the event
on radio, television and print opportunities. Events kick-off Friday,
April 25 and run through Sunday, April 27.
Spanning three days, April 25, 26 and 27, 2008, GYSD involves millions
of young people across the world, with the help of mentors, parents,
and teachers. Young volunteers will address important community needs
through service and service-learning projects addressing climate
change, literacy, poverty, human rights, and many other issues.
Global Youth Service Day is the largest youth service event in the
world. GYSD is a year-round effort to expand the impact of the youth
service movement. The initiative launches new service organizations,
policy changes, and sustainable service programs to create a culture of
engaged youth. State Farm Companies Foundation is the presenting
sponsor. More than 120 national partners and 75 lead agencies
throughout the United States organize campaigns. Overseas, national
lead agencies in more than 100 countries participate. Planning Tool
Kits, Service-Learning Curriculum Guides, classroom posters, grants,
and more are available for youth, parents, teachers and organizations.
