Nightflying: The Entertainment Guide

Steve Barham R.I.P.

    Steve Barham passed away on February 7 at his home in Russellville.
    Steve was one of the budding writers who helped chart the course of this publication in the early years. His writings, always appearing under a nom de plume, appeared often in our early issues. His early aliases included Jacob T. Rake, Tom S. Hunter, Gone Boy Rustic, Ask Dear Doyle and a host of others.
    He created our 'page novel' in the early years, Dickson Street: The Story of The Rustics, regarding Gone Boy Rustic and his brother Pope John Paul Louis The 3rd Rustic and the brothers' lives' trials and tribulations. This 'novel' ran from page to page and developed a critical following for more than two years.
    A prolific writer, orater and performance artist, Steve was also head of a radio melodrama performance ensemble in the late 70s, produced by Nightflying publisher Peter Read, and co-creator of Nightflying For The Blind, an on-air version of this publication in 1981 on KUAF and KKEG-FM in northwest Arkansas.*
*    This show essentially read and acted out our music calendars on these radio stations, and was quite popular with the sight-impaired in the area. It was eventually cancelled due to the non-blind community's complaints to the station that we were, essentially, making fun of blind people.
    Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Mary, and the countless friends he earned during his life.
